Depuis le Rock Bottom de Robert Wyatt, on a appris à se méfier des albums de batteurs, avec leur psychédélisme sous-marin dans lequel on plonge avec délice, mais dont on ne ressort pas indemne - pour autant qu'on en ressorte un jour! Percussionniste au sein de Zelienople, une des formations post-rock les plus passionnantes, Mike Weis nous fait plonger lui aussi dans un univers des plus singuliers... Envoûtant!

Mike Weis is the percussionist and drummer for the highly respected Chicago outfit Zelienople, and has collaborated with such esteemed underground luminaries as Scott Tuma, The North Sea, Xela (John Twells), and Jasper TX. The compositions on Loop Current / Raft breathe a singular vision of percussion as centerpiece to a multi-layered aural canvas. Mikes drums are shrouded in billowy clouds of ambient sound and muted synthetic drones. Tribal rhythms glean in and out of focus as sheets of bells, claves, bowed cymbals, and rattles dance over a hazy backdrop of manipulated field recordings, short wave radio samples, and found sounds. This release is Mike's first solo recording, and Barge is pleased to make it available in the vinyl format. (Barge)
