Kiyoko Itoh - 23 Ji no Onna (Toshiba, 1971)

C'est dans ce genre de disques que Tarantino va chercher les musiques de ses films. D'ailleurs, avec le temps, la musique finit par être la seule chose qu'on retienne de ses films - parce que niveau mise en scène et direction d'acteurs il y avait quand même de méchantes chutes de tension dans son Inglorious Bastards, mais ceci est une autre histoire et une question de goûts. Bref! Le vinyle original est un Graal, les rééditions CD sont presque aussi difficiles à se procurer  - à prix décent? vous rêvez! - et la musique est délicieusement datée, pop et cinématographique. Son érotisme bien inoffensif aujourd'hui ne l'empêche pas de garder son pouvoir de séduction intact.

Note : Deliriously mega rare and hardly known Itoh Kiyoko record. Normally if you want to score a copy of the original vinyl you are required to donate most of your vital organs to some yakuza-typed black marketer, but luckily enough, this one here is easier to attain without ripping out a lung or a liver to pound off. This was the final album Itoh recorded in 1971 and on this effort she got backed up by again a bunch of Tokyo underground heavy weights such as J.A. Seazer and Kuni Kawauchi of the Happenings Four. On this album, Itoh's talent is fully flowering and apart from merely eargasmatic songs she hushes into being, atmospheric city-life field recordings and sound snippets find their way in and between her compositions. These flashes of cosmopolitan Tokyo city life grandeur and the feeling of desperate desolation it tails along elevate her impeccable melancholic love ballads and softly erotic excursions to even higher levels of artistic expression, catapulting the whole affair towards eerie stratospheric heavenly delightful realms. Sadly enough, both of her albums failed to catch on, not poppy enough, too melancholic, way too creative, artistically too advanced, hard to categorize and probably even too erotically sophisticated without degrading herself to mere carnal sonic one hit wonders. In one word, a delicate soft psychedelic wonderland avenue of an album that will entrap simple airhead listeners into deadlock without giving them the chance to fully explore the absinthial pleasures it conceals. If one only cares to listen to what lies underneath its surface layer, a new form of aural addiction will commence to besiege you. One of the greatest underrated delicate psychedelic female vocal albums to seep out of Japan. Original copies just never surface and if they do, you have to trade in a limb to take one home with you.

Petite M'amie - Girl Friend, Baby Doll (Tiliqua, 1971)

Aujourd'hui, ces disques sexy japonais sont des petites curiosités et de vrais anachronismes à une époque où les publicitaires affichent des filles dénudées pour vendre des conventions obsèques. Ces petits minois qui minaudent, qui gémissent entre soumission et plaisir n'ont plus le même impact. Si on a l'esprit mal tourné, on dirait même qu'en fait de gémissement, ces demoiselles ont mal au ventre ou un besoin pressant d'aller aux toilettes! C'est moins facile de chanter que de se déshabiller devant les caméras, on dirait! Je suis mauvaise langue, puisque le disque que je vous présente ici est de fort bonne tenue. Déjà la pochette est habillée, le disque s'appuie donc sur d'autres charmes que la plastique de son interprète pour séduire. Elle chante peu, parle et susurre, mais rit plus souvent qu'elle ne soupire ou gémit. Et les arrangements façon Morricone des morceaux sont spécialement riches, baroques, pop et soignés. Le nom ''Petite M'amie'' fera ricaner les francophones, mais la musique les charmera sans peine!

Petite M'amie's "Girl Friend ~ Baby Doll" disc will be the final installment in our "Erotic Oriental Sunshine" series, documenting some hideously aural gems that portrayed the sleazy sexy underbelly of late sixties and early seventies Japan. We saved the best title till last. Petite M'amie's "Girl Friend ~ Baby Doll" is without a doubt the rarest of all recorded iroke kayokyoku artifacts and copies of the original album - if they surface at all - change hands easily for about 1500 ~ 2000 Dollars. I personally know only of 2 people who have the original disc in their possession. Originally recorded and released on May 5th, 1971, Petite M'amie was the nick name for Mari Keiko. Although she does not get naked on the cover like all the other starlets, the music she hushes out into being is utterly depraved, spiked up with an unheard quality of forlorn sleaziness, an erotic hushing and uttering that would make even Ike Reiko blush.
This record can be seen as the first ever recorded iroke record, a project to blossom out of the Victor's producer Mr. Okoda who approached the then (and now) virtually unknown Mari Keiko with his sonic intentions - a move that would ignite a whole new genre in the following years to come. The result is this sexy beast of a disc. But there where Ike Reiko's effort was drenched in a sultry pornographic vibe, Petite M'amie's benchmark recording is instead bustling over with an innocent - almost childlike - erotic sensuality that sounds harmless but is even wilder and more deranged than Ike Reiko's take on eroticism. Mari Keiko's hushes, sleazes, breathes and hovers like Nobokov's Lolita all over this one, teasing her lover, laughing in ecstasy, moaning, singing about erogenous spots and so much more while the music dwells in a psychedelic road trip towards the bedroom.

Meiko Kaji - Zenkyokusyu (Teichiku, 2004)

Femme Scorpion, Lady Snowblood, Meiko Kaji est une actrice culte sans avoir besoin de trop se déshabiller, et aussi une fameuse chanteuse d'Enka, ce genre de pop japonaise, puisqu'elle interprétait entre autres elle-même les chansons des génériques de ses films. Tout ça a un charme délicieusement kitsch, mais ça tient bien la route aussi! Deux titres rappeleront quelque chose aux fans de Kill Bill, puisque Quentin Tarantino les y utilise. Réalisateur parfois surestimé, on doit reconnaitre que c'est quand même un bon DJ. Import japonais hors de prix, cette compilation bien garnie propose une bonne présentation de sa carrière.
