CD Rectangle Rec-AL2 (France, 11-2002)
01. 17.
02. 18.
03. 19.
04. 20.
Note : Recorded and mixed on June 28th, 2001 at Auditorium de Saint-Ouen, Saint-Ouen, France.
The third and final installment in a trilogy of solo albums, this Joseph explores a similar path as Alike Joseph and Simple Joseph, but it reaches a new level of purity and beauty. Noel Akchote is credited for guitar and amplifier. He works with feedback, producing delicate, sustained tones by gently touching the strings or flipping pickup switches. The sounds never get aggressive; on the contrary, the guitarist struggles to keep things quiet and pleasurable -- even though that last word may seem a bit odd. In "20" -- the four tracks are titled "17" through "20," but they don't add up with the tracks on the previous albums (four each) -- things get louder and noisier, but the first three pieces stand as little gems of control. "17," for instance, exerts quite a fascination on the listener, its delicate tones ringing endlessly, the guitarist exploring the rich possibilities of very limited gestures, even putting together a beat from the flipping of switches and foot pedals. The Joseph series is quite different from Akchote's work in improvising groups or rock/jazz outfits (see the Recyclers or his work with Katerine). Expect music that has more to do with sound art and the placement of a sound event in space and time than with something associated to the guitar. (François Couture, All Music Guide)

Michael Prime - Requiem (Die Stadt, 2002)

Shrine - Distorted Legends, Pt.1 (Drone Records, 2008)

a1. Those Endless Fields of Rust (6:08)
b1. The Silo Sanctuary (5:34)
Note : First half of a 4 track material recorded in the end of 2006.
A 7" vinyl release that exceeds the limits of the common industrial/drone pattern. Build with tons of artificial sounds, this ep is based on multiple use of distortion effect. Noise fluctuations vs background soundscapes. It's been created in search of the point where harsh music is starting to sound deep and melancholic - 15 mins of true industrial meditation.

David Grubbs - Aux Noctambules (Rectangle, 1999)
Chaleureux!

Benoit Pioulard - Flocks (Blue Flea, 2009)

Gastr del Sol / Tony Conrad - The Japanese Room at La Pagode (Table of the Elements, 1995)

Ian Nagoski - Violets for your Furs (Edition . . ., 2003)
Immersion garantie!

“Comprised of a 22-minute electronic soundfield which, in turn, is comprised of more than fifty individual tracks and a rotating image developed by Daniel Conrad which has several interesting effects including the production of color from a black and white field, the 'Waterfall Illusion' (stationary movement), and involuntary 'blooming,' which are all analogous to aspects of the music, which I will leave to others to describe in affect except to say that there is some nostalgia involved. It is in part about ('about') the apprehension of simultaneities. It is certainly a ritual object for use at the shrine-altar of your record player. No kidding.” - Ian Nagoski.

Rick Reed - Dreamz / Blue Polz (Elevator Bath, 2008)
Rick Reed
Dreamz / Blue Polz
LP Elevator Bath eeaoa027 (USA, 06-2008)
a1. Dreamz
b1. Blue Polz
Note : Full-color picture disc, edition of 260 copies.
Ce qu'en disait le label :
Beautiful picture disc LP featuring two full-color reproductions of visual works by Rick Reed and two new side-long solo compositions.
Reed's fascinating, highly evolved world is represented well by these two new pieces, each of which offers up the kind of droning intensity and unsettling beauty that this veteran noisemaker has come to be known for. Reed's work is very obviously that of an experienced craftsman - one whose sound is a reverent nod to early electronic music underscored by an enduring sensibility for atmosphere and ethereality.
Dreamz began life as the soundtrack for a live visual display by filmmaker Ken Jacobs, which was performed live by Jacobs and Reed at the 2007 New York Film Festival. The record’s flipside, Blue Polz, was also inspired by the work of a filmmaker (originally conceived as a kind of alternate soundtrack to a piece by Fred Worden). All of the music was created using an EMS Synthi A, plus 2 sine wave generators and a shortwave radio.
The artwork comes from two original paintings. Reed has been active in the visual arts for more than 20 years; his work is utterly abstract, beautifully enigmatic. These images are the perfect accompaniment to Reed’s otherworldly audio counterparts.
In addition to his solo work, Rick Reed has participated in a number of productive collaborations over the years with Keith Rowe, Jgrzinich (in Frequency Curtain), the Abrasion Ensemble, and SIRSIT. He currently resides in Austin.
This picture disc LP has been released in an edition of 260 copies.

v/a - Cryosphere (Glacial Movements, 2006)

Adam Pacione - Dobranoc (Elevator Bath, 2009)

02. When the Thunder Breaks, It Breaks for You and Me / Always (Reprise) / Dobranoc
Note : Run off groove on side A states "Dif Juz is Playing at My House"; side B states "Clan of Big Hair".
Ce qu'en disait le label :
Dobranoc contains more than 40 minutes of new music utilizing field recordings, guitars, shortwave radio, analog keyboards & Moog filters. Haunting and yet serene, overflowing with contemplative and melodic tones, these are mostly long-form pieces: "Always" builds slowly into a monolithic block of sound, while in the title track, layer after layer of warm atmosphere appears and then unravels into a sea of tranquility. This is three-dimensional music, strikingly elegant, from a modern master of the art.
This picture disc LP is adorned with Pacione's lovely full-color macro photography circa 1995. The colorful sounds and images are bound together into a unified abstraction, dreamlike in its beauty.
Adam Pacione has been a fixture in the upper echelon of ambient drone for the last five years with releases on Elevator Bath, Infraction, and his own Bee Eater Recordings imprint. Pacione is also a highly skilled photographer with solo exhibitions and nearly a lifetime of experience under his belt. He lives in Fort Worth, Texas.
This picture disc LP has been released in an edition of 268 copies.

David Coulter / Michael Gira / Jean Marie Mathoul / Charlemagne Palestine - Gantse Mishpuchah (Fringes, 2004)

Martyn Bates & Troum - To a Child Dancing in the Wind (Transgredient, 2006)

Goliath Bird Eater - Black Pentagon (Ruralfaune, 2008)

Note : Limited to 77 copies.
New directions in spectral doom from Mr Bobb Bruno with help from Pocahaunted. Goliath Bird Eater are endlessly reverbed vox smeared into washes of tone while single chord doom/fuzz jams move from wasted refusals of any notion of forward momentum through to psychoactive repeat-minimalism. Jonathan Coleclough & Andrew Liles - Torch Songs (Die Stadt, 2007)

Torch Songs is a collaboration between Jonathan Coleclough and Andrew Liles. They met in October 2004 when they both performed at Intergration 3 in Preston, UK. Liles subsequently reworked the recording of Coleclough's solo performance from that evening. He went on to add, subtract, multiply and divide further live recordings supplied by Coleclough, and the eventual result was this double LP.
There is a special edition of Torch Songs (250 copies) which includes an additional CD of Coleclough's solo performance at Intergration 3, the basis for some of the music on Torch Songs.

Jim O'Rourke - Despite the Water Supply (Touch, 2008)

Jim O'Rourke - 6 Oscillators '87 / Guitar '88 (No Fun, 2006)

Charlemagne Palestine - Sound 1 (Alga Marghen, 2008)
Charlemagne Palestine
Sound 1
LP Alga Marghen Plana-P alga026 (Italy, 12-2008)
a1. Sound 1
Note : Single-sided LP, limited edition of 500 copies.
As the title well underlines, 'Sound 1' electronic sonority is a starting point in Charlemagne Palestine researches for the Golden Sonority. Previously unpublished, this radical and foundamental work has now been released on LP record in collaboration with the New Media Dept of Centre Pompidou (National Museum of Modern Art) in Paris for the first œuvres sonores event, December 15th, 2008. Charlemagne Palesitne started to dream of an expressive continuous evermoving everchanging sound form; an enormous sonorous 3-dimensional sculptural canvas in mid-air, using electronically produced sounds. At first he began experiments with simple sine tone generators emitting the purest sound waves without any overtones. Then, gradually, with access to moog and arps, he constructed sounds using the sine - sawtooth - square wave oscillators in a fluid everchanging mix of adding or filtering overtones and white noise to create sonorities constantly changing timbres and weight. Palestine experimented in this way from 1964 till 74 in NYC and then, in California, finally he assembled his own drone machine of 16 ultra stable oscillators designed by Serge Tcherepnin and 4 band pass filters designed by Donald Buchla. He would build up a sound, oscillator by oscillator, then add ever so slightly to the oscillator imput, tiny increments of white noise that would gradually make the sounds thicker and thicker untill they were immense sacred machines humming like gargantuan tibetan bees. Charlemagne played them very very loud, making all the room and objects in it resonate while outside all was quiet and sleeping. He worked like a painter with a palette and a canvas and he mixed and added and mixed and added over, entire nights, mixing adding and then lying on the mattress and listening and fine tuning. Finally, at a certain point, after several nights, the sonority seemed ready to record. He'd put on the tape, prepare the tape machine with the proper level as not to overload it and record the texture.
