b1. Untitled
Note : In 2005, Wolf Eyes member Aaron Dilloway headed over to Nepal with his wife, and befriended a local snake charmer/hustler family the Naths while she was off studying. Dilloway released the first fruits culled from his recordings of the family later in 2005, on the sleeper hit LP (and later CD) "Sounds of the Indian Snake Charmer". This year he follows it up with what didn't make the cut of the first volume, although that shouldn't suggest that these aren't as of a lesser quality. If you heard the first volume, you pretty much know what you're getting into with this one. The four members of this family bringing forth pure psychotropic snake- and human-charming drones straight from the source.

2 by Bukowski - Drink from my Bastard Grail (Poeta Negra, 2003)

Brian - We Close 1-2 (Elefant, 1999)

RE-UP : Thomas Ankersmit / Jim O'Rourke - Split (Tochnit Aleph, 2005)

RE-UP : Wingdisk - Time Is Running Out (Isonauta, 2004)
Ben oui!
Wingdisk
Time Is Running Out
10'' Isonauta ISO020 (France, 2004)
a1. Rio
a2. Kuro Tamago
b1. Departure Lounge
b2. Tachibana Lament
Note : This record includes singing, temple bells, old people wailing, guitars, cicadas, trains, piano, Mark Tranmer and Ian Masters. Recorded on hot days sometime between 2000 and 2002 in Manchester, London and Osaka.
Wingdisk is a duo comprised of former members of Pale Saints and the Montgolfier Brothers, and anyone familiar with those bands wouldn't be too surprised at the sound and tone of this EP. Very pretty, haunted songs are sequenced with the shorter bits to make two whole pieces, one for each side of the vinyl. Like with ex-Montgolfier Brother Mark Tranmer's previous duo, these songs have the quality of a soundtrack, subtle enough to work as mood music for some bittersweet scene of people doing stuff and saying things yet more than just aural wallpaper. There is something defiant in the unwillingness of the music to be too demonstrative, which would be noble but boring if it wasn't so captivating.
The quiet bossa-nova inspired "Rio" is, if anything, too brief, introducing a lovely chord progression outlined by Spanish guitars, piano, and a cyclical phrase played on what sounds like a backwards marimba or xylophone. It builds to the seven-word vocal - "Why don't we go back to Rio?" - only to fade out again. Drifting like motes of dust in a sunbeam, it passes away before becoming anything more, but it is very beguiling. Is it pop? Yeah, but it's too impressionistic to be just that.

Gnac - Biscuit Barrel Fashion (Poptones, 2001)

Roland P. Young - Istet Serenade (EM Records, 2009)

03. Dearest

10. Tea Bells
Note : 30 years since “Isophonic Boogie Woogie”, Em Records proudly presents Roland P. Young’s “Istet Serenade” – his first original material in as many years.
A foray into the area of music space that represents the core of Roland?s sound philosophy, ‘Isophonics’. The theory of composed improvisation of stillness in the fluidity of constant change. The thingness of actualized sound in the nothingness of acoustic evaporation and recreation from the source of the indwelling presence. This occurs at a speed which defies conscious comprehension but which reveals abundant spiritual revelatory aspects.
To quote mr Young: “The 10 pieces were chosen from 55 comprovisations created over the past year. My Travels to and playing in the atmospheres of Israel, Prague, Rome, London, Paris, Istanbul and Santa Fe, New Mexico combined with my formative years in Kansas City, Missouri then my years in the Bay Area of Northern California and my current residence in Brooklyn, New York inform my music with ever expanding inspirations and creative possibilities.”
This is a sound that is thusly described as spaced acid drones of intense acoustic chill, embracing electronic, ambient, world, avant garde, cosmic, free and chamber jazz music.
